Artists Varied Stripes

Produced and Directed by Vincent Romaniello

Shot on the streets of Philadelphia and in the intersanctum of the artists studios, we get a rare glimpse into how artists live, work and think.
A wide variety of artistic styles and genres represent the breadth of diversity in the art world today.
These short video documentaries are posted on Vincent's video log (vlog) at http://www.vincentromaniello.com

In just a few short minutes Tremain demonstrates an amazing number of encaustic techniques.
She uses a variety of branding irons, some that she made, and layers tar paper, fabric and paper onto her panel painting.
She ends the video with a quote from Agnes Martin.

Now we get down to the fire, smoke and branding irons. Tremain is working on a new piece and we observe the way she creates an encaustic painting.
During our lunch break she talks about her experiences as a resident artist at the McColl Center for Visual Arts in Charlotte, NC.

In this first sequence encaustic painter, Tremain Smith, introduces us to her West Philly neighborhood.
We also travel to the site of a mural project she organized and helped create for the Jubilee School with the help of the students and some local residents.
Tremain, who was a social worker for a time, has been active in numerous community art projects.
